This page is for entering details of stocks and shares in the solely owned by the Deceased.

HMRC classify stocks and shares by seven different types. Each type is given in the heading on each of the seven tables on the page.

You need to establish what type of share it was that the Deceased owned and put them in the relevant table.

You enter a share by giving the name of the Company or a Description of a Fund and the quantity held by the deceased and then the price of the share or unit at the date of death. If there are any shares that were ex-dividend at the date of death the Dividend due to the estate should be entered in the dividend due column.

If the Deceased had a managed share portfolio then you need to obtain a valuation of the portfolio divided into the various headings as shown on the page. You can then enter 'See attached portfolio valuation' in the Name or Description column and '1' in the Quantity column and the total value for that type of holding as the Price At Death.

The Box numbers referred to in the title of each type of share table are the boxes that the total values will appear in in form IHT 400.
